Sample Statement: SOMD Athletes should make every effort to maintain friendships outside of practice times to contribute to the health of an athlete. 

1.  SOMD should organize and/or sponsor social events outside of practice (i.e. a dance, movies, eating out).

2.  Athletes should create email lists of athletes and non-athletes to get others involved.

OPPORTUNITY

Sample Statement:  SOMD should advertise leadership opportunities to current athletes.

1.  Expand the ALPS University to more counties in Maryland so more athletes can have the opportunity to learn to make speeches with confidence.

2.  Use the Athlete Congress Sessions to give the delegates the chance to practice speaking in front of a group.

QUALITY

·         How well do you feel your training prepares you for competition?

Sample Statement:  SOMD will provide a venue that athletes are able to contribute input and feedback on improving training for all athletes.

1.  Eating Well Tips (examples:  what is good to eat, what is NOT good to eat) should be in the newletters.

2.  SOMD should provide examples and handouts about living a healthy life.

SPORTSMANSHIP AND INTEGRITY

Sample Statement:  Every SOMD athlete will take individual responsibility to treat fellow athletes with respect and agree to the SOMD Code of Conduct.

1.  SOMD should have a large poster of the Code of Conduct at the entrance of Special Olympic events.
